If you do want to transfer the files using a flash drive, you should consider upgrading to 8.5 or 8.6, assuming you have a USB card on the Mac (is the 7100 one of the PCI PowerMacs, right?). But the network solution is, by far, the best. You should get PCMacLAN in order to access the files on the Mac via the laptop (if it is a PC one)
