Hi Warren,
Yes it is fairly unusual for Robins to be in close proximity to each other
without fighting, however during extreme weather and with an easily
accessible food source these conflicts are usually forgotten. If food
becomes scarcer or the weather improves fighting will comence.

  Like other keen bird-watchers I've made sure our garden visitors have been
well fed this Winter. And it must be due to our inclement weather but after
throwing seed over the lawn today I witnessed four Robins all perched on the
same small tree within 2 meters of each other; I watched for a while and
they did have the odd dig at each other but mostly they seemed intent on
their free meal. Seeing that Robins are so territorial is this unusual
behavior?
