Hi - I am a Police Wildlife Crime Officer and just wanted to (politely) challenge the posting stating "The Police appear to be powerless (or scared) and nothing is done.". We've convicted quite a few wildlife criminals here in Sussex recently, including a group of hare coursers, and arrested 5 men just before Christmas in relation to deer poaching (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sussex/8425985.stm) and other offences under the Wildlife and Countryside Act. Operation Eyrie last year helped protect the Peregrine Falcon population in Sussex (http://www.sussex.police.uk/operations/op_eyrie.asp). We are hard on the heels of several other suspects and will be knocking on their doors shortly). Pity that the landowners can't get away with shooting the coursers. We live in a sad world. I guess that also means it isn't wise to publish any possible locations. Hares attract a certain cultural minority that like to course them with their their long dogs, when challenged by landowners etc they are extrememly aggressive and threaten to burn down barns, houses etc. The Police appear to be powerless (or scared) and nothing is done. The only defence of the landowner is to shoot every hare he sees on his land in the hope that the "cousins" will go elswhere. ?
