I think these are amazing images. I cannot think that they could have been created by random ice formation. However, I also think it questionable whether Phallus impudicus was around in the depths of winter and then just turned to ice!!! However, in December I noticed an equally inexplicable phenomenon - fields of snowballs between Half-way Bridge and Midhurst. My son was with me and can confirm. Some of them were up to a foot in diameter and there were hundreds of them in several fields along the A272. Subsequently my son sent me a cutting from a newspaper suggesting that this does occsionally happen and had done so recently in anothe part of the country. I wonder if this has been noticed in Sussex before. Annoyingly I took no photographs....
