The sleepy trees will start to push forth their buds and make their identity a little more obvious. Our recorders will be out in force and we are thoroughly looking forward to them letting us know about their findings. Do we mean you? We surely do! Wrap up warm, though - it's still a little chilly out there. Happy Hunting! Best wishes from the Ancient Tree Hunt team ________________________________ Woodland image by Kat Jaiteh<http://s.fw-reply.com/p/xWs/et.jpeg> Great Oaks from Tiny Acorns Grow We received a delightful video from a gentleman living in Sandridge in Hertfordshire - the village nearest to Heartwood Forest. It certainly has the feel-good factor but the most heartening thing (pardon the pun) is that the little man is interested in trees at such a young age. The Oak at the Gate of the Dead by Rob McBride<http://s.fw-reply.com/p/xWs/e0.jpeg> Heartbreaking News The Oak at the Gate of the Dead <http://t.fw-reply.com/info/+3KbC5Z/A7zu11/B8PDbK/D6diSl/W/bit.ly/aViT98 > was one of the magnificent trees featured when the Ancient Tree Hunt project was highlighted on BBCs Countryfile. Sadly the 1,200 year old Oak has been split by the cold weather. Arboriculturalists have been called in so we are very much hoping that all is not lost.. Wood under threat from road widening (c) WTPL<http://s.fw-reply.com/p/xWs/ei.jpeg> Take action NOW to protect Ancient Woodland The Highways Agency is planning to widen a stretch of the A21 between Tonbridge and Pembury in Kent.In total more than 9 hectares - almost 24 football pitches worth - of Kent's irreplaceable ancient woodland could be destroyed. Please speak up for woodland and support our objection by opposing these plans, too. The closing date for comments is Friday 5 March 2010.
