I went to have a look at the marsh orchids at Ferring Rife today and was surprised to see three scrapes dug in the marsh, with adjacent piles of spoil. I have since learned that this was a project by a local conservation group in conjunction with the EA to 'replace' ponds which had become choked with Crassula. Orchids have been dug up and covered. I know that there are a lot on the site but there are some scarce hybrids present. I do wonder if anyone who actually knows anything was consulted? Sarah
