Hi Richard.

Many thanks for your prompt reply, but I still have the problem.
I am using the pre-compiled aide package contained in OpenSUSE 11.1 which was released earlier this week. In testing aide, I don't  even change /etc/aide.conf file that gets installed by default. The steps I take and the result are as follows:
 # aide --init
 # mv /var/lib/aide/aide.db.new /var/lib/aide/aide.db
 # aide -C
Database 1 does not have checksum!
Aborted

I am off now for the seasonal break until early January, but when I return I will evaluate the problem further. I now suspect that aide maybe broken on the new release of OpenSUSE.

Kind Regards.

I have been using aide over the years without issues, but on a very recent install of a SUSE 11.1 system, when I run aide -C  to check system against the database file /var/lib/aide/aide.db  I get the response:

I know this is likely due to the fact that the FORCEDBMD macro is used for to force the signing of the aide.db database.

My question is: How do I sign  the aide.db file  so as  aide -C  will accept  this database file?.

When aide is build with database signing enabled, "aide --init" will sign the database. All you need to do is re-initialize aide.db (which is always a good idea after upgrading aide).
