Actually we need to know what you exactly want to do, with audio. Sure,
assuming your GNOME desktop should have got a hard dependency to
pulseaudio, it most likely would be enough to replace it, with an empty
dummy package, to get rid of pulseaudio. Getting rid of pulseaudio
might not solve your issue and depending on your needs, you might want
to use pulseaudio.

Did you already sent a request to a support channel of the distro you
are using? IOW did you ask on a distro related forum or mailing list?
