Hi Brian,

I'm glad to hear that there will be an alternative installation route
on T-Mobile G1, not locked to Android Market! I should stress that I
have nothing against Android Market as such. On the contrary, I
believe it can prove a great enabler. I am just deeply concerned about
the threat that any single party would hold total control to block
installation of third-party applications at the mere flip of a switch
(at their own discretion or when forced to through court order or
whatever indirect cause). My worries grew when not only there was no
alternative installation route listed in the online T-Mobile G1 manual
- which may merely serve to promote their recommended installation
route through Android Market - but especially when I could not find in
SDK 1.0 r1 the Settings panel that you now mentioned. It is good to
know that this was only an oversight that will be fixed (soon, I
hope). Your clarification was much appreciated. With Shane, I hope
that the required Settings panel functionality will not separately get
blocked by the network operators.

Thanks and best regards,

Peter
