We run into the same thing with our hydraulic pruners. Our guys use these or
other manufacturer's similiar to these. The key is that they are thin and work
like a wet suit. Hope this helps!

  Subject: [apple-crop] electric gloves

  I like my electric hand-held pruner, but it does not accommodate mittens.
Possible remedies: remove the trigger guard;
  three-fingered mittens; electric gloves. Comments based on personal
experience, or hear-say, will be welcomed. I am ruling out the
  option of relocating to warmer climate.
