President confers awards on State innovators

 GUWAHATI,
Nov 18 – Two innovators from the State have been honoured by the
National Innovation Foundation (NIF) with the National Innovation Award
for their innovations. President of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil
presented the awards to the two innovators – Kanak Gogoi and Uddhav
Bharali – at a function held at the auditorium of the Indian Institute
of Agricultural Research, New Delhi today.


While Guwahati-based innovator Kanak Gogoi won two awards for his
innovations –compressed air vehicle and gravity bicycle, North
Lakhimpur-based innovator Uddhav Bharali was presented the award for
his device – pomegranate peeler device.


Talking to this newspaper Kanak Gogoi said that he had developed
the gravity bicycle that can be run using gravitational pull, in 2002.
Gogoi developed his compressed air vehicle that uses compressed air as
its fuel, by labouring for two years since 2006.


Bharali, who had won the National Innovation Award on a previous
occasion also, developed his pomegranate peeler after several years of
experimentations. This machine is highly appreciated by the experts of
several foreign countries and it is in high demand in the developed
countries where pomegranate juice is very popular and also used for
therapeutic preparations.


Presenting the awards to the innovators, who included several
others from other parts of the country, besides Gogoi and Bharali,
President Patil said that an exhibition of the award-winning
innovations would be organised at the Mughal Garden of the Rashtrapati
Bhawan from February 14 next for a one-and-a-half-month period.


Each of the National Innovation Awards consists of a trophy, a certificate and 
a cheque of Rs 1 lakh .
