As an example, this week Sky News re- launched, even as a normal event there should be a complete re-design of the BBC news site by now.
Thats quite interesting; why _should_ there be a complete re-design? What factors are in play to make that a mandatory event?
There was one defining point for me.... during the competition, before the summer, there was a lot of discussion about copyright.
I don't think copyright is really an issue. The data is available in all sorts of non BBC feeds, you just have to look for them.
The issue is, I feel, more fundamental - so far the BBC backstage project has been more of a technical gimmick without any clear mission statement or purpose.
Watching people develop new ways to display news content, or TV content is only interesting to a point; being shown where Romford is on a map is interesting to an even smaller degree.
The BBC backstage project needs to give itself a proper mission and goal - just making data available and waiting to see what people do with it isn't really inspiring or useful.
