Best advice is try and get organically raised plants. Get some early and latye bloomers. We generally renovate the berries after harvest, we cover with clover or oats. Oats have been tricky because several winters did not get cold enough to winter kill. I highly recommend rye straw [silica] or wheat straw [gold].
