For Sue, my personal experience of biking in Philly: I bike every day from 11th/Pine to 36th/Spruce and back. The route I use is Lombard, South Street Bridge, Spruce, back on Pine. Lombard/Pine don't have bike lanes but I like them because there is no parking on the right side, little traffic and enough space for cars to pass me. South Street Bridge is a scary story, especially the intersection with the highway where turning on right is legal. The bike lane on Spruce is usually covered with glass, not always respected by cars, especially where it suddenly moves into the middle lane and I still have to see the day where there is not a single car parked on it on the short stretch between 34th and 36th street. In general I appreciate bike lanes on busy multi-lane streets, because they tell cars to expect cyclists and tell me that I have a right to be there. But if they are full of parked cars they make me more angry than no bike lane at all and lanes right next to parallell parking or the famous dissappearing lanes at Eakins oval are pretty suicidal. Luisa PS: I am 33 and have been biking all my life, mostly in Munich, Germany. We had a safe cycling course in 4th grade of primary school and I generally obey traffic laws and don't ride in the wrong direction or on the sidewalk. I usually ride at a leisurely speed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Luisa Lassova' Clinton Apartments #36 324 South 11th Street Philadelphia, PA 19107 Department of Neuroscience 123 Anatomy/Chemistry Building University of Pennsylvania Philadelphia, PA 19104 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ---- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the Bicycle Coalition of the Delaware Valley list named "bike."
