I'm passing on this message: =========== Subject: Perkiomen Trail- final surface on From: "Hal Schirmer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Newsgroups: phl.bicycles FYI, the much maligned 3 mile section of gravel sub-base on the Perkiomen Trail from Upper Indian Head road to Route 29/2nd Ave in Collegeville has recieved a packed grit riding surface. The surface is much more stable, even the narrow tired road bikes were riding along nicely... It's a blue grit from Upper Indian Head, to Arcola, (much like the surface on Forbidden Drive from Northwestern Ave/Chestnut Hill College/Bruno's, or Cedar Creek Parkway and Little Lehigh Trail in Allentown, or the mini Schuylkill River Trail in Exeter township Chester County- [part of the Thun Trail loop], Lehigh Canal Towpath at Sand Island, and portions of the Union Canal Trail along Tulpehocken Creek from Reading to Blue Marsh Dam. There's brow/red grit from Arcola to Collegeville (like the Delaware Canal Trail from Morrisville to Uhlerstown. The Perkiomen Trail 'officially(?) begins at the bridge over the Perkiomen, goes to Collegeville. then there's a 13 mile gap to the next section, which necessitates riding the along Route 29, to Schwenksville/Spring Mount. (not too bad all flat.) The trail surface there is a rougher gravel (like the rougher sections of Forbidden Drive...) that goes from Spring Mountain to Green Lane.
