It looks like we have a chance to save what remains
of the Flourtown Rail Trail Right of Way. We need trail advocates to attend

Sue,
My name is
Kathleen Lunn. I am a Springfield Township Commissioner representing Ward 1,
which includes most of Flourtown. I have located your email address on an
email sent to me by Peter Javsicus in Sept. 03. I just read your note with
regard to the abandoned Plymouth Branch of the REading RR in Flourtown. I
would like to invite you and any other interested individuals to attend a
presentation to the Springfield Bd of Commissioners at tonight's open meeting
about the possibility of converting the corridor to a public trail and trails
in general.
I have invited John Wood, Chief of Open Space Planning for
Montgomery County, to speak to us tonight at 7:45 pm about how this could be
accomplished, what the benefits to the community are, and to answer questions.
In preparation for tonight's talk, The Friends of Historic Bethlehem Pike
sponsored a walk along the trail this past Sat. led by John Wood. Despite the
rain, approx. 35 people participated in the walk. Many were adjacent
landowners, some who supported the idea and others who had safety
concerns.
It would be helpful to have as many trail advocates as
possible at the meeting, particularly people who currently use the trail, such
as yourself. I would also like to speak to you about the possibility of Temple
Ambler's Center for Sustainable Development's participation in the project
should we choose to go forward.
In spite of the short notice, if you
can make it tonight, I look forward to meeting you and hearing your ideas.
Please spread the word.
