The PennDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Checklist is now
online. Its part of their highway design manual. This is a key interim step to
help PennDOT "Complete the Streets". I call it interim because the checklist
tries to justify why you should include these accommodations as opposed to the
Federal Highway Administration Guidelines which asks you to justify why you
should not.
But the point is its in there and project managers
are expected to follow the guidelines.
University of Pennsylvania will doing a bike
parking/usage study on the Penn Campus this spring and summer, this is at least
partly the result of former BCGP President Parker Snowe to address bike
issues, this project is being headed by Mr. Dan Garofalo, Senior Facilities
Planner with the Division of Facilities and Real Estate Services. University
City Bike to Work Day is April 22.
