>Bike Access: >R7 - No bikes on Peak Direction Trains >River Line and PATCO - Bikes allowed on all trains
A note about the River Line bike racks. The bike racks on the River Line are hook arrangements. You hang your front wheel on the hook and your bottom wheel rests in a slot. Very easy to do, although a woman on our ride had trouble lifting her bike high enough to get her wheel on the hook. The slots are actually mounted on the bottom of passenger jump seats. When the train is crowded, these seats will be in use and you won't be able to use the train ( a problem that can happen on any crowded train that allows bikes.) We ran into this situation Sunday on our return from Trenton. Whether this will be a common problem remains to be seen. As mentioned in an early post, the bikes sway quite a lot in these racks. They aren't going to go anywhere, but could hit the knees of passengers sitting near the rack. You can prevent this by bringing a bungy cord or strap and lashing the bike to the vertical rail next to the racks. I look forward to more multimodal trips on this line. The seamless rails are very smooth and the huge floor to ceiling picture windows and comfortable seating make the train very pleasant. I highly recommend it. -Peter Rosenfeld NJ ---- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the list named "bike."
