PennDOT, planners withdraw trail plans http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=11143051&BRD=1725&PAG=461&dept_id= 45529
ALDAN - The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, withdrew their proposal for creating a bike lane running from Rose Valley to the Cobbs Creek section of West Philadelphia. The original plan was drafted in May of 2000, and in recent months steady opposition by residents and council members has grown. In a meeting held on Feb. 19 council members, Representative Nick Micozzie and over 100 residents voiced their concerns to representatives from the DVRPC and PennDOT. "We did not think the design was the best," said John Mcblain (R), vice president of council at the March 10 meeting. We can't thank Representative Micozzie (R-163) enough, he really went to bat for our residents." PennDOT estimated that the bike trail would cost between $250,000 to $300,000, and would be paid for by federal funds. "This is PennDOT's road. There was no local or municipal input for this road," said McBlain.
