I think genetics play some part in the amount of hair shed. I have some whose coat is so dense the natural shed needs "help" with scissors to loosen it up. Others look like they have cotton sprouting from their sides and it brushes right out. Seems like the longer the hair in winter the more cotton shed in summer. I have one ewe whose hair is so long in winter she gets a mane like the boys. Shed brings on semi- bald patches down her neck and back so I put sunscreen on her until the hair fills in.
