Welcome to the world of Blackbelly sheep. Your little lamb is behaving exactly as this breed does. They are wild and spook very easily and people are very scary to them. But the good news is you can win them over. It is all about trust with these animals and it can take awhile for them to trust you. Spend as much time as you can with her. Talk out loud while you are with the animals so she gets used to the sound of your voice. Sit on a stool and put some grain in the palm of your hand and see if she will take it. Let her smell you. Don't try too hard to touch her as she will decide when she will let you. Sounds like a lot of work to get her to accept you but it is worth it. I have one ewe who avoided me like the plague for 6 months. One day she let me scratch under her chin and from that moment on she dogged me every chance she got for more attention. Now she is officially known as my hugging sheep because she will "hug" me if I crouch down in front of her. She will also let me use her as a backrest if I'm down in the field and need to take a break! Just give it time and I think you will see they can make great companions.
