Another trip to the vets with a lamb. He is a 3 month old ram lamb. This
morning we noticed he had problems with his equalibrium. The vet took his
temp and it was 106*. The vet suspects Blue Tongue Disease. He said it is
found in sheep and deer. My husband has suspected that deer are bedding down
at night next to the night pen for the sheep. Now we have to figure out how
to keep the deer away. A blood sample is being sent to U.C. Davis University
Vet school down in Sacramento. It will take about a week to get the results
to know for sure. He told me it is a virus and pretty much has to run its
course. He gave the lamb a shot for the fever, a vitamin B shot, and
pennicilin to prevent the lamb from getting pneumonia. Has anyone heard of
this or had any experience??
Thanks,
Julie Riha
