For those of you interested in Federal requirements for sheep tagging under the soon-to-be-implemented national Animal Identification Program (NAIS), you might want to have a look at http://www.aphis.usda.gov/lpa/pubs/fsheet_faq_notice/faq_ahnais-sheepgoats.h tml This page describes the relationship between the scrapie flock identification program and the new NAIS program. You will learn how the new numbering system may affect your old numbering system and what tags you will need to purchase in the future

Bottom line: the Feds are going to get you, but it will take them years to figure out how to implement their program. During the confusion, if you are caught in the shuffle, you'd best know the law so that you can defend yourself. If the scrapie program is a fair indication of our government's inefficiency, then the National Animal ID should be a real screamer.
