To everyone that wrote about Yasha ramming me....Thanks for sharing your ideas and experiences it helps a lot to hear what others do in these situations:
I am just now reading my list for the 25. I had emailed Marion LoPrinzi the other day and she told me what she and Jon did with their 200 lb. ram that started ramming them.
Today was the first time I had the opportunity to try it and then I just read that some others have handled their rams this way too . Yasha is not near that big...maybe 75 to 100 lbs...and maybe 3 1/2 feet tall at his head. Just guessing.
But I decided this morning it was going to be D-Day if he did it again....I went in by myself with some corn in my pocket, to hand feed some of the ewes. When Yasha realized I was in the pen he came out of the shelter following the two ewes he was laying with....I reached out to him to give his some corn with the others and he took acception to it immediately. I could see it coming...He kind of rammed once but was in the middle of the ewes so it did not do much ......so before he could regroup I reached out and caught hold of his horns....drug him into the next pen and flipped his head sidways to try to flip him on the ground....welll his body did not follow so I had to actually push him down and then I straddled him on the ground...and I made sure he was on his side with his legs not under him....I wanted him to know he was really down and at my mercy...I did not put all my weight on him but enough that he could not get up...
His eyes were big and looking at me side ways...his left horn was in the dirt and I was holding the right one so he could not move his head...( felt like a cowboy roping a calf LoL)....So I just stayed that way for a bit...maybe about 5 minutes and I talked to him all the time telling him he was Not going to do this and IF he did he would be done away with....I knew I had to be stern with him....
I don't like doing that but I don't want to have to get rid of him either or lock him in a separate area if possible....he is a good guardian of the ewes and the dogs....not sure who is guarding who...but they work together well. :O)
Anyway when I let him up I was not sure how he would act but he just got up and walked away with his head down and went back to the shelter, not even looking back once....I think he knew he was defeated.....hopefully.....I'll see how he is next time I go in....Hopefully I wont have to do it again but if I do ....I will and sit on him longer the next time! :O)
I love the little bugger and I really hope we can work this out so he will be able to be interacted with again...I don't want him as an enemy....but I know he has to see I am boss, as well as my husband....we both work with them and love on them but I have been the main caretaker of them. Just a note: He let Alan rub and scratch his head like before once he realized he was boss . I hope he will recognise that I am boss too and behave like before with me too. I will be on guard anyway from now on if we keep him. Like kids I am imagine he will try again to see if I am still boss...
Well as I said thanks for all the help I still have todays list to read and may have more to say after that... :O)
