Hi, I would appreciate some help please. I have 7 barbados total. 3 are yearlings, 2 adult rams, 2 adult girls. I am having problems with ONLY 1 of them. One of my females started losing weight about 3 weeks ago. She continued eating what i would consider plenty. I feed them all a mix of honeyglow (which is a 14%sheep grain) and also hay.. and let them graze. Water is always available. White salt block always available. I know not to give any copper. They were wormed with SAFEGUARD pellets about 6 weeks ago.. She recieved plenty, I made sure of this.. they each have their own feed bucket.. and mixed the pellet and watched it being eaten. About 7 days ago.. this sick ewe was given an oral dose of ivomectrin wormer. ok.. NOW she has had the runs for a few weeks, but she was still drinking, eating etc... as she kept losing weight i started to worry,, but since she was eating and drinking I figured hmm no problem! Ok thrown in the mix here.. When we purchased her last year.. she was THIN.. and PREGNANT.. We got her plumped up a little bit.. but she never looked pregnant allthough we told she was.. so she was quite thin upon getting her! She had twins, both survived. Our OTHER ewe is prego right now.. so i was assuming she may be also.. not sure though... but i thought maybe toxemia or pregnancy toxemia , anemia etc.. ok.. THIS IS HOW IT ALL WENT DOWN.. Woke up about 4 days ago or so.. she was down.. down on ground.. breathing but almost in a coma.. Since this time here is what i have done.. I put her in a cage away from others, I have given her water through a syringe constantly, Per the Vet we have been giving 3 cc of pennicilliian for the last 3 days and do that 2x a day, we have given her a load of kaopectate since vet thought rumen was not working, We give her 1 oz of nutri drench for sheep for 2 days now, She had a sterroid shot via the vet on sunday, Rumen was really moving massivly, and girgling on sunday. She is still having the runs, I move her constantly afraid of soreness she may get, She CAN NOT stand at all... she could not hold up her head sat or sunday at all... Now yesterday.. she is holding head up at times, but gets so tired.. it flops down .. I have gotten her to drink water by herself yesterday,,, TONS of WATER she took in, but still CANT get up... cant hold up head for very long, i put my fist in the rumen and it DOES NOT seem to be working at all... no movement at all... she has been eating alfalfa a little at time since yesterday also.. which is GREAT! but she can not walk..cant sit up, has the runs.. i feel no movement in the rumen..she is very weak.. and i dont know what to do..????? HELP PLEASE.. my concern is that i am forcing her to live.. since i make sure she is drinking, etc.. What could be wrong.. because i dont know. What can i do? or what should i do? She has a day left of antibiotics.. It is a struggle to figure this out.. the VET said she would not live.. that he didnt think she would live through sunday even.. well she is striving.. but i dont know if it is because i am interfering and prolonging the inevitable? Any help would be wonderful.. thanx, Londa LONDA : ) _______________________________________________ This message is from the Blackbelly-blackbellysheep.info mailing list Visit the list's homepage at Blackbelly-blackbellysheep.info@lists.blackbellysheep.info http://lists.blackbellysheep.info/listinfo.cgi/blackbelly-blackbellysheep.info
