I have also problesm with /dev/lp0
crw-rw---- 1 root lp 6, 0 May 19 10:46 /dev/lp0

If I do modprobe lp, I recieve the folowing error while print:

/var/spool/lpd/lp/.seq: no such file or directory

then , I create this file with tuch and print as root again:

/var/spool/lpd/lp/tfA002wonka

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~tty12# lpr /home/william/tmp/vaio.txt
lpr: /var/spool/lpd/lp/tfA003wonka: Permission denied

I don't understand this.

To have all the relevant information:
I paste the contents of mi /etc/printcap-file (was working under kernel 2.4)

# /etc/printcap: printer capability database. See printcap(5).
# You can use the filter entries df, tf, cf, gf etc. for
# your own filters. See /etc/filter.ps, /etc/filter.pcl and
# the printcap(5) manual page for further details.
