Hi!

I have developed a new option (for grub legacy) that avoids stage1
to stage1_5 link so that only stage1 to stage2 link happens. Should I set up
this option as the default option?

It's best not to link stage1 to stage2 directly. If you do, the
location of stage2 is stored inside stage1, this means whenever you
change the location, perhaps by running defrag, you have to reinstall
grub again.

This avoids problems with some Windows (Vista) systems that insist
in overwriting the sectors just after the MBR where stage1_5 resides.

Can you check how many sectors are overwriting by vista ? If there is
still room in the first track, you can embed 1.5 in some place after
the scratch area.

I do not know.

I even think that this useful link:

http://www.multibooters.co.uk/mbr.html

is not useful in this case.

But it's NOT a DEFAULT Vista behaviour it only happens with some antivirus or firewalls I think.
