I'm assuming the bug is in e2fs_stage1_5, though I don't know for sure..
Anyway, when booting with the latest CVS tree of GRUB (in an attempt to
get access to the map command), I get "stage1 stage1.5", then
"GRUB loading, please wait...", then "Error: 18".. It seems the
e2fs_stage1_5 doesn't realize my BIOS supports the 27.2gb drive I'm
booting off of, while the older (0.5.93.1) version works great with
exactly the same setup... Also of interest is that the GRUB shell seems to
install GRUB to the hard drive fine (when I've booted from an older GRUB),
but when I boot off a (newer) GRUB floppy, it claims my BIOS doesn't
support the larger drives (eek)...
