Follow-up Comment #7, bug #15048 (project grub):

Hi I can verify this 'bug' :) I used Kubuntu 2006 boot CD, I have a SATA
drive and the chipset is ICH7 (I think, it's the intel chipset).  I don't
know what version of GRUB it is, it's whatever is on the Kubutu 2006 CD.  The
problem is exactly as described (endless reboots, until reinstall linux). 
There are no BIOS options to disable MBR modification.  I am running a
HP/Compaq dc7600.  I also have Novell but can't get to the windows registry
to see if Novell is modifying the boot sector (but that's a great idea). 
I'll try lilo and see if i can get it to work.  Otherwise I can forsee a long
cycle of installing linux every day to get work done!
