I went out a little while ago (just before it rained), and there was still water coming out from the hole in the street. My guess is that last night, they simply restored water service but that they still have a sizable repair to do. There is a traffic cone to warn motorists to go around the hole in the street.

We will probably lose our water service again when the repairs are made. Hopefully, the city will warn us ahead of time.

Water started coming out of a crack in the road in front of 3046 Guilford a

nothing was done; a couple weeks ago it had created a foot-diameter hole in the
asphalt; by this week the hole was probably ~2 ft round and the road around it
was sinking. I don't know why the city let it leak for so long and undermine
the pavement. Did anyone else report the leak?

I went outside, and a city crew is working at the other end of the block (near
the southwest corner of 31st and Guilford). They are digging up part of
Guilford Ave. I was told we should have our water back in a couple of hours.

I just saw Emil's post on the chat list. He lives right near where the crew is
working, and they clearly are working hard. It takes a lot of work and money
to maintain ancient water mains.

And thanks Emil to for encouraging the fixing of the problem.

At this moment, my house has no city water. Earlier this evening, I
noticed that the water pressure was lower, but the water was still on.
Fortunately, we have some bottled water in the basement for
emergencies. Also, earlier this evening, we saw a yellow flashing
light outside on what may have been a city water repair truck.

I did call 311. If you press 3 after a recording tells you that it is
after hours, you get someone who is supposed to handle public works
emergencies, but she said it could be 24 hours before the water is
back on. I was given a service request number. She also said it was
shift change time, so information may not have been available to her.

I am on the 3000 block of Guilford. It is too late to see whether
others on the block also have no water, so I will ask on these list
serves whether anyone else is having the same problem.

One thing I guess we all are aware of is that the water distribution
system in Baltimore is ancient, and most of it should be replaced but
will not be because of the expense. At least I am not seeing any
flooding outside, but I may go out and take a look.
