[Cherokee] Cherokee doesn't serve pages when run as daemon

I am experiencing a strange problem with Cherokee 0.4.17 on uClibc
0.9.27 (both built from Gentoo ebuilds):

When Cherokee is running in the foreground, it serves pages and works
fine. If I start it with -b to daemonize, Firefox will connect and
basically block trying to read from the socket. If I kill the
cherokee process while it's blocked, the browser returns instantly
with "connection was reset" message.

I've searched the mailing list to no avail... can anybody help? My
kernel is 2.6.15 if that makes a difference. My system is built using
the Gentoo embedded profile.

Thanks,

Mike.
