Why go out on your own?- When the engineers who wrote the book & built the car want the end of the spring between the 2 holes. I installed mine IAW the Assembly Manual & haven't had a problem. If you are installing a special application spring, you might want to call the vender/manufacturer and hear what they say, otherwise with a stock replacement spring I'd install it IAW the Assembly Manual.
