Yes, let's do that. This Friday is a good day to do it
(as they will be in Session in Springfield). You can
find the phone numbers here: www.legis.state.il.us and
you can look up your elected officials if you know you
ZIP+4 code here: www.vote-smart.org

Try to ask for a two minute phone call. Say that you
are a constituent, you live in the district, and you
have an idea for a revenue generator that the
representative/senator might like. Ask when a good
time to call is during the day. If you never reach him
or her (they are busy and often on the floor or at a
committee hearing, not in their office), then leave
the message and ask them to call you (on your cell so
you'll get it and not play phone tag) back.

Keep it quick and brief:

I know that everyone is looking for a revenue
generator. Would you introduce a bill that caps the
retailers discount, so that the mom-and-pop stores
don't lose out, but we're not subsidizing Wal-Mart and
Best Buy who really don't need the discount.

Ask them just to introduce it to get the idea out
there.

I'll get the bill drafted up tomorrow, and the first
person who gets their representative and/or senator to
agree to introduce the bill, will get the bill as the
original sponsor.

If your guy won't introduce it, ask them if they'd be
a co-sponsor if someone else will introduce it.

That's a great idea. Call your alderman and ask them
to introduce an ordinance that requires web
notification of the street cleaning schedule at least
72 hours in advance of any street cleaning.
