Oh no uncle bill more ritual beatings the grand master got it right **Baudot and Braille developed digital codes.*** howard B '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' Snip Ok the ASCII thing was a tad of a red herring but not really x0x0x0x0xx00x0x0x0x0x Emile Baudot The first bit-oriented language device - the printing telegraph - was developed by Emile Baudot. Bit-oriented means the device sent pulses of electricity, which were either positive or had no voltage at all. These machines did not use Morse code. Baudot's five-level code sent five pulses down the wire for each character transmitted. The machines did the encoding and decoding, eliminating the need for operators at both ends of the wires. For the first time, electronic messages could be sent by anyone. x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x This was snipped out of a Cisco training thingy. What Cisco diid not mention is BAUD rate So now you know yet another leaf in the book of useless information and a couple fo links related to this http://www.datacottage.com/nch/cablinghist.htm http://www.samhallas.cwc.net/telhist1/telehist2.htm http://www.nadcomm.com/fiveunit/fiveunits.htm Oz http://www.mcseco-op.com/helpfull_links.htm ___________________________________ UPDATED Posting Guidelines: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/guide.html FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
