OK, we can leave aside this one for the moment before we know for sure. I've
just remembered another guittar (with lute-shaped body) that I've restored a
few months ago. It belongs to Taro Takeuchi and can be viewed here:

Scroll down to the bottom of the page, second on the right.

In this case there is absolutely no doubt that the neck is original, not
spliced etc and is originally designed to house the watch-key mechanism (not
branded in any way, as is in case with Prestons). There is an inscription in
ink on the capping strip: "Hoffmann, London 1758".

I'm pretty sure the "Remerius Liessen" has a spliced or replaced neck, but
I'm not positive.  andy
