I just discovered that the Administrative Office of the US Courts and some parts of the executive branch refuse to even consider job applications from persons living more than commuting distance (roughly 50 miles) from the job location at the time of the application. My immediate response is that this is a violation of the Constitution because it limits the right to relocate, uses an irrational category, and -- perhaps most basically - discriminates against residents/citizens of specific states. I would greatly appreciate others' thoughts on this, including, identification of the best legal authority for the position.
