History of jury selection in the U.S. during the 1700s and early 1800s

Folks:  Could any of you please point me to some books or articles on the 
history of jury selection in the U.S. during the 1700s and early 1800s, 
especially explaining the shift in some colonies and states to selection by lot 
rather than by choice of the sheriff or marshal?  Many thanks,
