Subject: [ctls-l] Internet Filters??

Hello All!

I have a patron coming in Thursday to discuss why we don't filter our
public Internet computers. When I mentioned this to my boss, she asked
if I knew how many libraries are filtering now. I'm still doing the
research for the national level, but I thought I'd ask you all in order
to get a feel for the libraries in our area. So:

Does your library have filtered computers?

Yes and no. Yes on children's. Yes on guest and any computer screen that
faces out. No on the computer screens that face upward (under a glass
desk top). No on the notebooks. On the notebooks, as they DO face out,
if someone is looking at something that a patron complains about, staff
will go to the person and remind them that what they are viewing can be
seen by others. They'll either move to a more discrete location or get
out of the site.

Hopefully this is short enough that it won't be a hassle for you to
respond (I hate filling out surveys myself!).

Thanks!

Judy
