Space is still available at our Early Literacy Kits workshop in July. Early literacy is of interest to librarians, educators and parents. This hands-on workshop will be fun and informative. Pass this on to your friends and colleagues. Register today! Early Literacy Kits...on a Dime! Early literacy means helping young children get ready to read. Come learn how to take early literacy out into your library! July 15, 2008, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wells Branch Community Library, 15001 Wells Port Drive, Austin, Texas Learn how to make inexpensive early literacy "kits" and integrate them as activities around the library. These materials not only allow children to play while learning, but also encourage parents to engage with their children using early literacy techniques. This hands-on, half-day workshop is for public and elementary school library staff. Participants are asked to contribute $3 for refreshments. In addition, there will be a fee of $10 for early literacy kit workshop supplies. All fees are payable at the door. Recently, she attended Children's Spaces, Family Places: Early Literacy Environments in Your Library at the 2008 Public Library Association Conference. She was so interested in the content that she decided to bring something similar to Texas. As coordinator of the Small Library Management Training Program, Dawn is always looking for low-cost solutions to improve service and library environments.
