Hi -
We currently are managing our public computers through the vendor's
software - we are using the Userful Computer Discover Station. They have
built in time management, patron authentication, and print management.
They are the ones where multiple workstations share a single computer. We
have had them now for almost three years, and are planning to replace them
with newer models next fiscal year. Call and ask for Eric or myself if you
have any other questions.
I certainly agree with Dale that it is always beneficial to go to other
sites, talk to the staff and get their input on how library products
actually work in the real world!! How many times has something sounded so
great and then you get it home and......

EnvisionWare
The Round Rock library is using EnvisionWare and Cedar Park is using
RFID—two places to visit and talk about how each product has actually
affected work flows, things to be aware of, and to encourage everyone to
implement what they can afford. Georgetown is also using a system for
computer use control that I believe is cheaper than Envisionware (maybe
Gretchen and Eric can tell us more about it). Always helpful to do site
visits and get the staff’s take on these products.
