FRONTLINE/World and ALA teamed up to create an opportunity for libraries to foster a community dialogue on social entrepreneurship in the local community. Austin Public Library has been selected to implement its proposal to bring discussions of global and local social entrepreneurship to the community.
The Library will host two programs. The first program to be held at Yarborough Branch Library will consist of a film showing using the well-known award-winning FRONTLINE/World International News Magazine PBS series on Social Entrepreneurs. Following the film screening, Dr. Tommy Darwin will moderate a panel discussion which will involve partners the Library has invited to help engage the audience. The film screening program is scheduled for October 15, 2008. The second program, Building an Action Plan, is planned one week later with Hands on Central Texas and will be held at United Way Capital Area offices. This program will engage attendees in actually learning how to construct a plan of action and will be taught by Dr. Darwin who is the Director of the Professional Development and Community Engagement Office at The University of Texas at Austin.
