OK, let me straighten this out a little. 'Serb' implies some allegiance
to the Serbian Orthodox Church, related to Greek and Russian Orthodoxy.
'Croatian' implies some allegiance to Roman Catholicism. Not that there
aren't atheists, Scientologists, Mormons or Baha'is in either camp...

Eastern Orthodoxy keeps a different sacred calendar that Roman Catholicism
[but I think they both synchronize on Easter, since that's calculated from
the old lunar calendar.] It's Easter now in both Zagreb and Beograd. Both
Serbs and Croats speak essentially the same language, but with different
alphabets. Croatians are generally more urban, more western-oriented, and
more schooled than Serbs, only 10% of whom have a high-school education.

'Albanian' implies some allegiance to [Sunni] Islam, although they're
pretty secular mostly. There *are* communities of Christian Albanians
in Kosova - those are the villages that HAVEN'T been Ethnically Cleansed
by Serb forces. The KLA are definitely NOT drawn from these folks, eh?
Either the NY Times article was totally fucked, or somebody is confused.
