As this Christmas season approaches, Governor Schwarzenegger do you bring us the light of Jesus or the confusion and decadence of the Roman Empire?
The recent flack about Governor Schwarzenegger's budget trimming makes me realize that the news media, American public, and Governor do not understand the definition of a Conservative. When Conservatives limit government programs, they are not trying to be mean. This is because they believe that the individual can manage their own life better than the government. Conservatives want limited government to protect them from the intrusion of government into their religious, personal, and business affairs. From the media's dialog, you would think the Governor was a mean fiscal Conservative. The truth is that Conservatives and the Governor are not mean. Furthermore, Schwarzenegger is not a fiscal Conservative.A fiscal Conservative believes in the original philosophy of the founders of the United States, which was that the citizens give the government the right to govern. Since they were small farmers, they believed that individuals should own the means of production. They distrusted government and believed that the individuals could manage their own lives and business affairs better than the government. So to make it weak and inefficient, the founders of the US created a federal government that had checks and balances. In this form of government, no one individual has all the power. Also, they created a government that was not connected to the Church (the separation of Church and State). Why did they create this weird inefficient system?Since the original founders came from European kingdoms that had repressive governments, they wanted to insure religious and personal freedoms. Because of the experiences with repressive governments in Europe, they had extreme fears of the command structure of the kings and queens of Europe, which can be traced back to the Roman Empire. During the latter years of the Roman Empire, Emperor Constantine made Jesus' church one of the state religions: the Roman Catholic Church. This created a religion that had the spiritual message of Jesus and the decadent materialistic message of the Roman Empire. The conflict between these two philosophies would dominate much of the Church's history.After the Roman Empire split into West and East, the modern Roman Catholic Church became the state religion of the western empire. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the Roman Catholic Church became the state religion of the kingdoms that were established in Western Europe: England, France, Spain, the principalities of the Holy Roman Empire (modern Germany), etc. As head of the Roman Catholic Church, the Pope gave the Western European royalty the divine right to rule their kingdoms. The European royalty intermarried to consolidate their power. Therefore, royalty from another kingdom sometimes ruled kingdoms. For example, the Windsors of England come from the Hanover Principality within the Holy Roman Empire. Within these Catholic states, the European royalty's command structure was very repressive and dictatorial. For example, the Roman Catholic Church and government in France executed hundreds of millions of Catheters, a Roman Catholic fringe group. The record of this kind of repressive measures dominated these European governments. Over the centuries, reformers within and outside of the Roman Catholic Church changed and tried to change it. For example, Saint Francis created his own order and changed the Church from within.Eventually, some of the Western European royalty broke away from the Roman Catholic Church and established their own state religions. In Germany, Roman Catholic monk Martin Luther broke away from the Roman Church and formed the Lutheran Church, which became the state religion in many principalities in the Holy Roman Empire. Because the Pope would not allow England's King Henry the Eight to divorce and remarry, he formed his own state religion, which is now the modern Episcopalian Church. These breaks with the Catholic Church resulted in endless religious wars between the Roman Catholic Church's kingdoms and brake away kingdoms. Eventually, the Catholic kingdoms and the break away kingdoms battled among themselves: Catholic against Catholic and break away kingdom against brake away kingdom. The royalty's bankers (the Teutonic Knights, Knights Templer, and the Rothschild) financed these endless wars. So, the royalty's command structure was the kings and queens of Europe, the royalty's religions (Episcopalian, Roman Catholic, Lutheran), and their bankers (the Rothschild and Teutonic Knights). Now that you understand the definition of Conservative---Governor Schwarzenegger is not a fiscal Conservative.Instead of making cuts to government programs and privatizing government agencies that the conservative Reason Foundation identified as unnecessary, he proposed keeping most of the government programs by borrowing the money. Schwarzenegger proposed a $15 billion bond issue to pay most of the $24 billion deficit. He only trimmed $1.9 billion off of this year's budget. So when the Governor made small cuts to frivolous programs and one illegal program (the UC preferential treatment program), he was tipping toward the Conservative philosophy. However since he made only small changes, he is a fiscal liberal.With this misunderstanding of the definition of Conservative, America has reached a turning point. Conservatives are endangered because the liberalization of America has been so successful. The corporate business establishment has encroached heavily on the success of small businesses. Family owned businesses have been wiped out by conglomerate chains that have connections to the government: Wal Mart (Hillary Clinton was on their board of directors while Bill Clinton was Governor of Arkansas), Target, McDonald's, Burger King, Wall Greens, etc. They have replaced many of the independent store and restaurant owners with temporary low wage employees and illegal immigrant laborers. In a similar pattern, conglomerate chains have impacted the family farm. Conglomerate corporations like ADM and Tyson Foods (another Clinton backer) are replacing the family farm.This replacement of the individual business person has had the effect of making the American people dependent on the State. The day when the individual was sovereign and the State received its mandate from the people is quickly disappearing. The combination of corporate and government controlled sources of information are giving the American people only two choices: Communism or Fascism. Communism is where the State controls the means of production and holds all the power. Fascism is where the State holds the power and gives the control of the means of production to a few large corporations. There is another choice: return personal freedom and the means of production to the individual.Leo Tanner
