[CTRL] Damn FEMA to hell!

Excuse my outburst, but I just saw something on WCBS-TV out of NYC which
has me very upset.

The out-on-the-street reporter was showing a small demonstration that has
formed of people who have come to NYC to volunteer their help, AND THEY
ARE BEING TURNED AWAY BY FEMA.  Turns out that the clean-up at the WTC is
now a contract job awarded to 4 general contractors, who will only hire
union workers; in other words, the only people 'allowed' to help with the
clean up are paid union workers.  The 4 general contractors have
announced that they have 'enough workers', and aren't taking on any
additional workers even if they already belong to the union.

In addition, many of the volunteers aren't volunteering for clean up, but
to help distribute food and other needed supplies -- THEY TOO ARE BEING
TURNED AWAY, BEING TOLD THEY AREN'T NEEDED.  One man in medical scrubs,
visibly angry, showed the reporter a long list of supplies someone needed
-- respirators, breathing masks, sweatsuits, socks, etc. -- and he stated
that the person that needed these things was not going to get them,
because FEMA had turned away volunteers who could have gotten the
supplies delivered.

Many of these volunteers have come from a long distance -- one man from
New Orleans, another from Colorado, another guy came all the way from
Hawaii bringing his welding equipment with him, and FEMA told all of them
"we don't want you'!!!!

I'm seething over this!  I think everyone in the U.S. should contact
their state's congressmen and senators, and demand that they find out why
FEMA is compromising the rescue and recovery effort by turning away these
wonderful volunteers...
