Another rocking performance of Philly's finest at Calvary last night. The Chestnut Brothers are a very smooth R&B duet who manage to sound like Bob Marley, Grover Washington and even Harry Belafonte all at the same time. Very entertaining.

But the Urban Guerrilla Orchestra really blew the roof off the house. Bass, guitar, drums, congas, keyboards, alto sax, trumpet and baritone sax care of none other than Calvary's own music director. Plus two unbelievable voices. The gentleman in the porkpie cap whose name I didn't catch reminded me of a kid I used to know in Harlem name of Bebop. The lady, whose name was Shirley, was sort of a cross between Aretha Franklin and Beverly Sills. My my my. Made me think I had died and gone to heaven. The horn section came on strong putting you very much in mind of P-Funk, but from there it was Mostly Motown. Then when they hit Mustang Sally full force about 2 in the a.of m. I was smote by the spirit and just had to get up and dance. Not a pretty sight. All this incredible talent in an intimate venue. What a privilege to witness.
