From Today's Inquirer ... B3 - "Tax Relief from slot parlors comes at a
price for players"
Read the article as printed, it's scary enough.
But if you really care about Social Justice, read the verbatim
transcript of the reporters original, unedited, story ...
Headline:
Don't risk your Social Security or DPW Check in the stock market ---
spend it all on a sure thing -- The Pennsylvania Slots!!!
In Harrisburg yesterday, an anonymous spokesman ... oops, Strike that.
Restart.
In Harrisburg yesterday, an anonymous spokesperson for the State
Legislature, when asked to explain where the money would come from,
stated, "We need to get Pennsylvanians (who can't legally gamble
today) to spend $3 billion [a year] on the new Pennsylvania slots so
that we can "pay back" the $1 billion a year we promised to other
people in the state in the form of Wage Tax cuts (for Philadelphia
residents only) and Property Tax "rebates."
This money needs to come from the gambler's Social Security and DPW
checks because otherwise, we in Pennsylvania's City and State
Governments can't spend a dime of that money! It's a brilliant way to
tap into a completely new stream of income for the State and Local
Governments. The people who complain about taxes don't gamble, and the
people who whine about "poor people" will blame the Bush
administration. We can't loose!
Rather than just cut their taxes, we need these people to gamble with
abandon -- Because the state will only get 34 percent of the monies
gambled, the casino owners, [who are also large campaign contributors],
get to keep the other 56 percent. And besides, if we simply cut the
taxes in the first place, your elected representatives wouldn't have
any money to pay for their limos, chauffeurs and expensive
"constituent" dinners. It's much better to entice the public this way,
through "entertainment," into giving their money back to us. That way
they think they are getting BOTH something for nothing in the form of
Government checks, AND tax cuts! While we continue to rake in our
salaries and expense accounts for playing accounting games that would
make even Bernie Ebbers squirm.
Why should the individual, get a measly 6% return from the stock
market, or a 2% return from a savings account, when we [the state, not
the individual] can get a whopping 34% return from Slot Machines! Get
rich quick is our motto.
So! Bring your entire family, your friends, your neighbors... We
Legislators need your money... oops I misspoke, The companies that run
the slot machine parlors need your money so that they can donate it to
our re-anointment, ooopsie again, re-election campaigns!
Come one, Come all, to the Great Harrisburg Feeding Trough! [Unless, of
course, you expect money for Public Transportation.]
Y'all voted for us, and we voted for it!
Sucka!!!
