March 26 8pm LINGUISTICS Every last Saturday http://www.soul-sanctuary.net/ LINGUISTICS was originally conceived as a poetry slam, but we soon realized that Philadelphia was asking more from us than just another poetry competition. Our words move people, so we bear some responsibility for moving folks in a more positive direction. Thus, we've revised the LINGUISTICS vibe to that which promotes more social action. Come out with your spoken word, your rhymes, your monologues or your songs and let's speak peace and power into existence! We're looking for your thought-provoking and inspiring pieces to get us geared up to go out and spread good news to all within earshot. _______________________________________________________ Sun. March 27 8pm The Villiage Idiutz announce "Risus Paschalis" - a night of collaborative mash-up improvised comedy between some of the area's best improvisors. The show features performances by LunchLady Doris (http://www.geocities.com/lunchladydoris_improv/) Elaschtick (http://elaschtick.com/) HypnoToad; the side project of the resident troupes the Cabal (http://parentheticalnote.com/thecabal/), the Ninjas, and Rare Bird Show (http://www.rarebirdshow.com/). Among the combined experience of the troupes are performances at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in NYC, the New York International Fringe Festival, The Dirty South Improv Festival in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and The ComedySportz National Tournament. The name (pronounced "RISE US PAS CAL US") is the outdated name of an odd custom that originated in Bavaria in the fifteenth century, where Catholic priests inserted funny stories into their sermons on Easter that would cause their parishioners to laugh. This is an opportunity for audiences to experience the highly-skilled improv available here in Philadelphia. Come see local talent turn your suggestion into a montage of hilarious scenes that connect in the most surprising ways!
