I would have to go with Cobraman, and the Philadelphia Cash Masters. Check out www.cobraman.biz. The CD is called Rock Attack, but I don't think it's available yet. His live performance is one of the most exciting things I've seen in Philly in ten years. He just got a good write up in the Boston Globe, and you'll definitely hear more from him. The lyrics are sophomoric, but the band is incredibly tight, and funky. He used to go under the moniker Jimmy Luxury, and work with some of the guys from the Goats.
His live show will rock your fugging socks off, and he's non-union.
Pete I realize this should move over to the culture list.
Good point. The Culture list is meant for those with incredibly refined sensibilities and sophisticated taste to discuss Art as a pure form. The UC list is meant for the bourgeois yuppies to discuss the commercial aspects of Art, such as where can I get a non-union Jamaican troubador, not too expensive, to perform at my exclusive garden parties. Carry on.
