Subject: [Culture] My Wild Night(s) Out
Whew. Last night I was at the White Dog, then tonight I "made the scene" at Abbraccio aka Big Hugs. Whew. I'm afraid I embarrassed myself at the listserve meetup at the Dawg; I was downing those rum toddies pretty rapidly and I must confess I don't remember a whole lot of what went on, other than that I was up on the table demonstrating my expertise in the polka and Naomi was sticking dollar bills in my decolletage.
Then tonight it was birthday night at Big Hugs. Mindful of Crazy Joey's unpleasant experience at Umbertos Clam House back in the day I was careful to get a table with my back to the corner. It was my first time there and I must say it was delicious, even if the atmosphere was a trifle yuppified. It was a chilly night out, and there was a pleasant roaring fire in the fireplace. Started with the clams, then went on to the shrimp and scallops Cosa Nostra, ending up with the Chocolate West Philly. Whew. My digestive tract is not used to revelry on quite this scale. The waitress thoughtfully put a big red candle in my son's West Philly Chocolate although sheesh, it looked like a big damn firecracker and I almost jumped under the table for cover. Nice place -- when we arrived they were playing Beatles tapes although the musique soon degenerated into some kinda fancy Italian opera -- this one soprano put me in mind of the stray cat discussion we've been having online. Anyhow, I didn't get whacked, plus which I brushed up on my Italiano in the men's room. Reminded me of when I used to wash dishes at Minelli's Steak House, back in my youth -- "Fond of things Italiano, try a sip of Galliano."
