4/16 8pm-12am Gate to Moonbase Alpha (GTMBA), feat. Music for Isolation Tanks, Orbital Decay, Arkitekchur, The Great Quentini, David Gerbstadt. MUSIC FOR ISOLATION TANKS started as a quiet studio project back in 1991. The first release was the flip side of a cassette single consisting of four brief songs recorded in one evening. The focus of the project has always been electronic music and as the Help Wanted staff and studio has grown so has MFIT. Variety is the only constant in MFIT releases as each album offers an entirely different perspective on what electronic music is all about...Today Music For Isolation Tanks continues to record and play live shows ranging from the original ambient intentions of the project to complex cut up and avant improvised excursions. In early 2000 Live at the Foundation was released and Music For Isolation Tanks has started to record it's first studio album in years as well as continued to record live performances for a potential future live compilation.
http:/ www.helpwantedproductions.com Spacemusic duo ORBITAL DECAY will perform an original video and music score entitled INTERDIMENSIONAL GATEWAY, created exclusively for GTMBA. Featuring stunning video effects, combined with 70s Berlin School synthesizer and guitar. OD takes the audience on a cosmic journey of electronic sounds and mesmerizing colors. http://www.geocities.com/orbitaldecay_99//gtmba.html
ARKITEKCHUR's newest release is "Should or The Drawing Boarded Colour Target Future Theater Wars" (tbtmo27). The Wire writes "...something about this record, the way it's cloaked, the unexpectedness of it, demands your gaze. "You're not paying attention," admonishes a stowaway sentence in the credits... The [CD] sleeve is a minor masterpiece of samizdat reportage. Decked with a handheld DV still of US troops in front of the Baghdad Martyrs' Monument, it's crawling with referents and signifiers, from splurges of bad data to coded, erudite free verse in superimposed typography, to a blood-on-hands chunk of the Project for the New American Century's world domination enterprise...much of this CD summons the elegiac qualities of the electric guitar, the brooding hum of petulant amps, the muffled throb of martial toms...Motifs cycling around for quarter-hour periods on lambent, tolling guitars, something like Godspeed! chastened at a wake, are interspersed with short Ambient interludes..." Grooves gushes "...the music on the album...tends towards quiet and minimal ambient structures. There are points where this minimalism fosters some tension in the listener, but these are strongly outweighed by pieces that are more calming in nature, at least to these ears...a rather good, slightly dark, and primarily ambient album that should appeal to most experimental music listeners..." http://www.arkitekchur.com
and CHARLES COHEN (Buchla Music Easel) + JOE LENTINI (laptop, Max/ MSP, processing). Need we say more? If so, visit
http://www.users.voicenet.com/~ccohen/ Performance artists/sound experimentalist THE GREAT QUENTINI returns, again, for 2 brief recess periods in our otherwise sonic event, with found objects highlighted and showcased for their intrinsic musical potential, to strange and eery recordings and spoken word, as well as handmade costumes and zany headdresses.
Visuals will be provided by DAVID GERBSTADT, renegade artist, master of oil projections and general aesthetic tomfoolery.

4/17 8pm THE GROOVE The open mic jam session that endeared itself to the hearts of area vocalists, poets, MCs and musicians during its runs at South St.Blues and Soul Sanctuary. There's this slammin' house band called dB (Decibel), see ...led by DAMON "Mr. Dizzy Fingers" BENNETT on keys, with CONLEY WHITFIELD on bass, JAMES ROUSE on the traps and CARLOS IZAGUIRREO on percussion. They play most of the night, but any musicians who want to sit in can bring their own weapon of choice or just politely ask to get down with an instrument and do their thing. There's no list here, see ... no politicking to get on the mic. The vibe is kept flowing by these 2 co-hosts that have a weirdly wonderful yin/yang thing between them. There's this dude named BERNARD COLLINS who can freestyle his ass off and occasionally breaks out with this strange, but slammin' poetry. He even sings sometimes, but you can never really expect any words. It's mostly like scat on speed. Then there's the cool sistavibe of The Queen Bee STEPHANIE RENEE. Most of the time she's singing something soothing for the people, bringing out their sexy, mellow side. But don't sleep ... she jumps all up in the hip-hop cyphers too, either with a phat hook or a rhyme of her own. http://www.soul-sanctuary.net
